Executive Summary

Open Source solutions and services have become a viable alternative to proprietary technologies over the last few years. Open Source solutions offer similar or better feature-sets than their proprietary counter-parts at an economical price.

Open Source software is usually misconstrued to mean only Linux. In reality, there are 175,000 active Open Source projects of which Linux is one, and while Linux aims for the base operating system, many other solutions cater to much more advanced requirements such as email, secure file sharing, single sign-on and even VoIP.

As Open Source solutions penetrate corporate markets the demand for centralized management and deployment increases.

Open Source solutions are designed by expert programmers and administrators for programmers and administrators with in-depth knowledge of inner workings of Linux.

Clarity is a server and user identity management solution in one. It is designed to be able to handle primarily Open Source based infrastructures. The goal is to bring about the same ease of management and friendly GUIs as have become common in proprietary software.

Clarity manages the entire organization logically and due to its open-standard approach, it can be easily extended to control any piece of software, Open Source or otherwise. Clarity would automatically make the required changes once requested through a user-friendly GUI.

The product will drastically reduce the cost, effort and human resource requirements needed in migration to, deployment and management of, Linux based solutions and will add enterprise class management and monitoring to Open Source solutions to make them viable alternatives to proprietary applications.

The key benefits of this project are given below:

  • The product will make the deployment and management of Linux and Open Source Software (OSS), a cost effective alternative to proprietary IT solutions, e.g., Microsoft, Oracle etc., easier and cheaper.
  • It will facilitate open-source solution providers to increase their customer base and provide value-added service to their current clients by offering their solutions along with Clarity.
  • It will develop a team of qualified Open Source personnel to deploy and manage the Open Source Software
  • Establishments such as Hospitals, Manufacturing Companies, Financial and educational institutions will have a coherent management suite, along with security and reliability.
