This was the first program of its kind in the country. In the crash program of this project 900 talented 2nd Year college students from non-metropolitan areas of the North West Frontier Province and its associated Tribal areas were trained in their local institutes for 1 week. 679 students appeared for the screening test of Boot camp held at local institutes. 303 students passed the screening test and were imparted 2 weeks training in the boot camp in GIKI. Prior to this training program, specialized training manuals for teachers and students were developed and teachers from local schools were trained to conduct the 1 week training program.

In the regular program of this project, 2nd year pre-engineering intermediate students will be trained for 1 year. In the year 2007/08, it is planned that 1800 students will be identified and trained for 4 weeks in their summer vacations in their local educational institutes. These students will also attend a 2 week training session at their local institutes during their winter vacations. According to the proposal, 200 students will be selected from this lot for their final boot camp training at the GIKI for their entrance test in June 2008.
