Islamabad, October 5, 2009: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
has been inked between Buraq Integrated Solutions (BIS) and
School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – National
University of Science and Technology (SEECS-NUST) on Monday, 5th
October 2009 for the establishment of Center of Excellence for
the research and development of Industrial Automation at the
campus of SEECS-NUST.
Mr. Habeel Ahmed, Head Electrical Engineering Department,
National University of Science and Technology and Mr. Mohammad
Asad, Chief Executive Officer, Buraq Integrated Solutions were
the signatories on the MoU on behalf of their respective
organizations.
Buraq
Integrated Solutions has been working on Development of Open
Source HMI, a project funded by National ICT R&D Fund. The aim
of this project is to have a locally
developed real time, standardized, mission critical and scalable
HMI. The Human Machine Interface (HMI) is the aggregate of means
by which the
users
interact
with a particular
machine,
device,
computer
program or other complex
tool
(the
system).
HMI refers to the ‘layer’ that separates a human that is
operating a machine from the machine itself. HMI enables us to
control the machine/industry in real time. HMI communicates with
Programmable Logic Control (PLC) units using industry standard
communication protocol called ‘OLE for Process Control’ (OPC).
HMI based Industrial Automation is absolutely necessary where
strict monitoring and control measures are required.
The project also aims to produce enough local experts who can
develop and support the product within local resources. This
software can be implemented in all the industries where there is
a critical demand of monitoring and controlling the machines and
processes in real time.
Through the signed MoU, Buraq Integrated Solutions will provide
free of cost training on introduction to OPC technology and PLC
configuration to faculty and students of SEECS. BIS will also
assist the students’ projects development/implementation related
to Industrial Automation using Open Control. Through this
activity BIS will ensure that adequate manpower is trained in
program application on Industrial Projects.
