Islamabad, November 2009:
National ICT
R&D Fund congratulates the team of Health Life Horizon at
NUST-SEECS for successfully completing its first year. This
fully funded project by National ICT R&D Fund worth Rs.14.12
million aims to carry out research in healthcare by developing
Health Level 7 (HL7) based software framework with the objective
to facilitate e-health services.
In this one
year, NUST-SEECS became an organizational member of HL7 and now
is striving for HL7 Membership Affiliate. The team has
successfully published 12 national/international research
publications and has also successfully deployed HL7 v3.0 system
in CITI Lab in July 2009. They have also held several workshops
and seminars in this year to create awareness of the emerging
HL7 standards while also participating in the 10th
IHIC Conference and 22nd Working Group Meeting of HL7
in Japan.
The team has
also taken the initiative to write a book on end-to-end
experience of design and implementation of HL7 v3.0 system.
A total of
three MS and three BS students have benefited from this funded
project as this domain was their main area of study. Another
five MS and four PhD. students are also carrying out their
research in this domain.
This
project has a time horizon of about three years and is showing
promising results in its first year of inception. The project
would benefit the local and global healthcare organizations to
use this system to achieve inter-domain and across-domain
semantic interoperability with the advantage of exchanging
healthcare information in a secure and reliable manner.
