National ICT R&D Fund sponsors Conference on Corporate Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Karachi, November 2009: The Conference on Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CCIE) 2009 was held in Karachi.  National ICT R&D Fund was a gold sponsor for this event held by MIT Enterprise Forum of Pakistan. MITEFP has been working for three years towards developing entrepreneurial eco-system in Pakistan by undertaking Business Acceleration Plan (BAP) competition. MITEFP is working with Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America (OPEN) with the objective to mentor IT companies operating in Pakistan to accelerate their business to the next level.

This is a remarkable initiative which has the potential of having significant impact on the economic growth of Pakistan. BAP aims to help accelerate some of the participating IT/ITeS companies by placing these companies through a mentoring/coaching program. The participants of BAP worked towards preparing a Business Acceleration Plan which was later ranked and then selected as winner and runner up teams.

Ten R&D projects funded by National ICT R&D Fund also participated in the “Road to Commercialization” program of the event. Five projects were short-listed through a selection procedure managed by the MITEF-OPEN BAP organizers for presentation on this platform. These funded projects of National ICT R&D Fund were presented before an international audience and entrepreneurs and were highly appreciated for their thorough and concrete work by the panelist. The audience and presenters had a very energetic interactive exchange of ideas during the Q&A session.

BAP 2009 was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Mr. Ken Morse Founding MD, MIT Entrepreneurship Center with other highly respected entrepreneurs as mentors and judges to the participating IT/ITeS companies. The Conference was attended by board members, senior and mid-level management across all aspects of organization - from strategy development to business models and channels, finance, marketing and business development, HRD, operations, web presence, and other areas of information systems.

The conference focused on inculcating innovation and entrepreneurial culture and importance of acceptance of change in the corporate sector. The organizers plan to hold this conference as an annual affair owing to its tremendous success.

National ICT R&D Fund was recognized and well appreciated on this platform for its commitment to high-quality R&D work in the field of ICT and its enormous potential to introduce skilled ICT human resource of academia and industry for commercialization pursuits and thus economic growth in Pakistan.
