National ICT R&D Fund sponsors Conference on Corporate Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Lahore, November 22, 2009: Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer
Science (KICS), University of Engineering and Technology (UET),
Lahore in collaboration with IEEE USA organized third
International Conference on “Open-Source Systems & Technologies”
(ICOSST 2009) from 19-22 December 2009 at KICS-UET, Lahore.
Open Source Software Engineering has emerged as a
cross-disciplinary paradigm for distributed enterprise
computing. ICOSST 2009 provided a scientific platform for
researchers and practitioners who shared their ideas and
experiences related to the state-of-the-art and the future of
open-source software for tackling research and development
challenges and open-source development environments for critical
applications.
The closing day of the conference was honored with the addresses
of Dr. Waqar Mehmood, Director KICS and Lt. General (R) Muhammad
Akram, Vice Chancellor, UET, Lahore. Dr. Qasim Sheikh, CEO
National ICT R&D Fund was the chief guest at the closing session
on the last day of the conference.
Researchers and practitioners of Open Source Software from
academia, industry, and public administration presented their
research papers and tutorials addressing critical areas such as
E-Business, E-Government, Telecommunication, Enterprise
Security, Healthcare, Higher Education and Research, Enterprise
Resource Planning, and Educational Institution Management and
Administration.
The main objectives of this conference were:

Development of open-source stand-alone software tools,
toolsets, and IDEs for critical, complex, and robust
enterprise information systems.

Development of case tools like modeling editors, build
automation, continuous integration , logging, debugging,
tracing, performance, code generators, document generators,
installers, search, rule engines, databases, and
presentation.
A special combined session was arranged for research and
development projects funded by National ICT R&D Fund working in
the field of Open Source Software development. Five R&D projects
funded by National ICT R&D Fund were showcased in this special
session. These projects from the field of e-health, e-education,
and 4G telecom infrastructure and network security system were
highly appreciated for their thorough and concrete research
work.

commitment and its contribution in the field of Information and
Communication Technology. National ICT R&D Fund (Ministry of IT
