Islamabad – October 3rd, 2011 – National ICT R&D Fund, an
organization committed to research and development in
information and communication technologies with the vision to
transform Pakistan’s economy into a knowledge based economy is
pleased to announce that Dr. Syed Aun Abbas has joined the Fund
as its CEO.
Dr. Aun has
more than 23 years of national and international experience in
the ICT industry and academia with a strong focus and notable
success in research and development since his graduation in
Electrical Engineering from UET Lahore.
In the past 15
years, he has served in research and development roles with
major ICT industry players such as LG-Ericsson, Nortel Networks
and Centillium Communications. Most recently, Dr. Aun was
Advisor Strategic R&D at LG-Ericsson. Previously, he was
associated for many years to LUMS and UET Lahore in academic
positions. Dr. Aun is one of the leaders at ITU-T study group 15
and has contributions to the development of DSL and DWDM
technology standards.
His solid
industrial, academic, R&D and management experience will be very
valuable for the Fund. Dr. Aun holds 4 US Patents and has
numerous research publications to his credit. Dr. Aun has a PhD
and MS in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University,
Ottawa, Canada.
